The shooting occurred on May 28 at approximately 12:32 p.m. near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspect fled before officers arrived, launching an intensive investigation involving homicide detectives, SWAT personnel, patrol officers, and specialized investigative units.

The violence came just hours after a man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in North Long Beach near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street, adding to growing fears from residents about escalating violence citywide.

The first overnight attack happened May 28 at approximately 10:36 p.m. in the 4500 block of California Avenue. Officers responded to a stabbing and found an adult female suffering from stab wounds to her upper and lower body. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported her to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

Investigators said the woman was walking in the area when a male suspect approached and stabbed her before fleeing. The motive and suspect information remain under investigation.

Hours later, at approximately 2:33 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of East Market Street. Police said a male victim was involved in a physical altercation when the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired one shot before fleeing. The victim was not struck, and no injuries were reported.

Then, around 3:09 a.m., officers responded to another stabbing in the 3200 block of East Anaheim Street. Officers located a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Drive-By Triple Shooting Near Silverado Park Leave Drive-By Triple Shooting Near Silverado Park Leaves One Victim Critical

A triple shooting late Saturday night near Silverado Park has once again raised concerns among residents about ongoing gun violence in Long Beach and the city’s response to crime.

According to preliminary information, the shooting was reported at approximately 12:13 a.m. on May 24 in the 3200 block of Caspian Avenue. Officers with the Long Beach Police Department and firefighters with the Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene after reports of multiple people shot at a home near the park.

Authorities said three victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Copper Theft Investigation Leads to Arrest in Nort Copper Theft Investigation Leads to Arrest in North Long Beach

Copper wire thefts continue to rise across Long Beach, prompting increased enforcement efforts by the Long Beach Police Department.

LBPD announced the arrest of a suspect connected to an ongoing copper theft investigation after officers reportedly caught a man tampering with city electrical wiring early May 20 in North Long Beach.

According to police, patrol officers, the High Crime Focus Team, and Burglary Detail have spent the past several months investigating an increase in copper theft incidents throughout the region. Authorities say the crimes have damaged city lighting infrastructure and created public safety concerns.

At approximately 3:26 a.m., a North Division patrol sergeant in the 3600 block of Orange Avenue observed a man allegedly tampering with wiring connected to a city light fixture.

After detaining the suspect, officers reportedly discovered about 39 pounds of wiring believed to have been stolen from city light pole infrastructure, along with tools used to remove wiring.

Investigators also found additional vandalism to city lighting infrastructure in the 3500 and 3600 blocks of Orange Avenue.

The suspect was identified as Saul Chavez Viveros, a 30-year-old Long Beach resident. He was booked for grand theft and felony vandalism. Bail is pending magistrate review.

Police said copper theft remains a serious issue because stolen wiring can leave streets darkened, increase repair costs, and create hazardous conditions for residents and drivers.

LBPD said the investigation remains ongoing and encouraged residents to report suspicious activity.

Long Beach Pride Festival Cancellation Amid Safety Long Beach Pride Festival Cancellation Amid Safety Permit Dispute

The City of Long Beach released a detailed statement defending its decision to cancel the 2026 Long Beach Pride Festival, saying organizers failed to provide critical safety and permitting documents in time for the event to move forward as planned.

According to the City, festival applications of this size are normally due 65 days in advance, though expedited reviews can be requested within 14 days. Officials said staff continued working with organizers throughout the week and into the final hours before the scheduled start of the festival to review submissions and request missing information.

City officials stated additional site plans were submitted around 7 p.m. Thursday night, but the application still lacked key documents needed to issue permits. As of Friday morning, the City said it had not received approved structural plans for stages and trusses, approved electrical plans, detailed security layouts, or sufficient infrastructure details required to safely permit the event.

Despite the cancellation of the festival in its original form, City leaders and the Convention Center reportedly offered alternative venues, including the Terrace Theater plaza for up to 3,000 attendees or the Bixby Park bandshell for a free public concert. Officials said alcohol sales and fenced-off areas would not have been allowed because of the shortened timeline. Mayor Rex Richardson also offered to privately raise up to $50,000 to support either option, but organizers declined.

The City emphasized that Pride celebrations will continue across Long Beach throughout the weekend, including Sunday’s Long Beach Pride Parade at 10 a.m., which the City says it has funded and operated for the past three years. Officials also announced additional transit services, extra restroom facilities along Broadway, and a free drag show and live music event Sunday at Bixby Park hosted by Jewels of Long Beach.
Long Beach Residents Question Public Safety After Long Beach Residents Question Public Safety After Shooting and Two Stabbings

Violent incidents across Long Beach since Mother’s Day weekend are raising renewed concerns among residents who say crime feels more frequent despite city leaders reporting overall declines in crime.

On May 11 at approximately 8:52 p.m., officers responded to the 6300 block of Myrtle Avenue regarding a shooting. Police located evidence at the scene and later learned a male adult victim had driven himself to the Long Beach Police Department North Division substation with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire personnel transported the victim to a local hospital. The suspect fled before officers arrived, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting followed two separate stabbings reported on May 10.

At approximately 8:13 p.m., officers responded to the 5600 block of Long Beach Boulevard where a male adult victim was found with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body.

Earlier that morning around 5:14 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Anaheim Street where another male adult victim was located with multiple non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals, and investigators say the motive and suspect information in all three incidents remain under investigation.

The recent violence has left many residents questioning the city’s public safety messaging. Mayor Rex Richardson and city officials have pointed to statistics showing reductions in some crime categories, but many residents say shootings, stabbings, and other violent incidents continue to impact neighborhoods across the city.

Residents are now asking why crime feels like it is increasing and what additional steps are being taken to reduce violence and improve safety in Long Beach communities.
