Update: Female Killed, 3 others Wounded in Stabbing Spree
On Monday at approximately 5:35 a.m., LBPD officers responded to the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue for a report of a stabbing that turned deadly. When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from stab wounds to the upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital where she died.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate and discovered the victim was standing in the area when she was approached and stabbed by a man who left the scene on foot before officers arrived.
Later in the morning, officers responded to the following locations regarding non-fatal stabbing incidents involving similar circumstances:
- The 700 block of Olive Avenue at approximately 6:25 a.m. where a man was stabbed
- Ocean Boulevard and 4th Place at approximately 7:05 a.m. where two men were stabbed
All victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body.
As officers arrived at Ocean Boulevard and 4th Place, they found a man with a knife and arrested him at the scene. Detectives later discovered evidence indicating the suspect was responsible for the earlier homicide.
The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Yohance Sharp of Long Beach who was booked for one count of murder. His bail was set at $2,000,000. The motive for all attacks remains under investigation. However, detectives believe the stabbings were unprovoked and the suspect and victims did not know each other. The suspect, Yohance Sharp, is believed to be responsible for all three attacks.
The investigation is ongoing. As with all homicide investigations, this case will be presented to the Los Angelse County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
The identity of the victim and notification to next of kin will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner–Coroner’s Office. The unidentified victim appears to be a woman in her 60’s. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Homicide Detectives Donald Collier and Leticia Gamboa at (562) 570-7244.
