16-Year-Old Shot, Woman Stabbed in Separate North Long Beach Attacks

LONG BEACH – Police are investigating two separate violent incidents in North Long Beach this week that left a teenage boy shot and a woman stabbed.

The first occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 in the 5200 block of Atlantic Avenue, where officers responded to reports of gunfire. They found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a local hospital. Police said the motive and circumstances remain under investigation, and no suspect information was immediately available.

Hours later, at about 12:10 a.m. on Aug. 14, officers were called to Atlantic Avenue and Harding Street for a stabbing. A woman was found with non-life-threatening wounds to her upper body and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspect, later identified as David James Woods, 29, of Long Beach, briefly fled before being arrested. Woods was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, with bail set at $30,000.
