The banner drew immediate attention from people in the area and on social media after it was seen attached to the balcony railing overlooking the Civic Center. City officials later confirmed that the banner was not paid for with taxpayer money and did not involve the use of public funds and will then be donated to a Long Beach community-based organization.

Statement from the Mayor Rex Richardson office:

“This week, our City Council called for accountability for federal tactics that have caused harm in communities like ours. The message on that balcony is a statement of solidarity.

We stand with our immigrant families, and we believe public safety must be rooted in trust, not fear. Our work to ensure every family in Long Beach feels safe and protected will continue.”

According to residents, the banner has since been removed.

No further details were immediately released regarding who placed the banner or how long it was displayed.
