Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene, but he declined transportation to a hospital. According to the preliminary investigation, two male suspects fired multiple shots toward the victim before fleeing the area. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are still working to determine the motive and identify the suspects. Earlier in the evening, at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of California Avenue for another reported shots call. Police contacted an adult male suspect in what is being investigated as a negligent discharge of a firearm. The suspect was treated by Long Beach Fire Department personnel and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked. Authorities have not released additional details, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Suspect Descriptions: * Suspect #1: Male, Black, late teens or early 20’s * Suspect #2: Male, Black, late teens or early 20’s * Suspect #3: Unknown Vehicle Description: * Black 2006-2011 Mercedes ML 350 * Temporary registration sticker in front window (passenger side) * 5 spoke wheels (appear factory) * Tinted windows (right front passenger, right rear passenger and rear window broken out/damaged) * Identified as having a temporary California license plate at the time of the incident * Prior damage to right passenger doors * Missing chrome molding on right rear door * Missing the center cap on right front tire * Black roof rails * Sunroof According to investigators, the off-duty officer was approached by two armed suspects around 1:30 p.m. and robbed at gunpoint. The officer fired shots at the suspects, who fled the area. Detectives now believe three suspects were involved. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspects and suspect vehicle. The suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees the vehicle should call 911 immediately. The vehicle was reportedly struck by gunfire, shattering the rear window, and was last seen traveling southbound on Orange Avenue. Officers are searching the area near Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue, reviewing surveillance cameras, requesting helicopter assistance, and checking transit bus cameras for the suspect vehicle. Fireworks barges will be near the Queen Mary, Junipero Beach (Cherry Avenue) and Granada Beach (Bay Shore Avenue). The displays are expected to be visible from much of the shoreline. Popular free viewing locations include Bixby Park, Bluff Park, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Junipero Beach, Granada Beach and the area near Rosie’s Dog Beach. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs or blankets. For a premium experience, the Queen Mary will host its annual Fourth of July celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. aboard the historic ship at 1126 Queens Highway. General admission is $75 for adults, $45 for children, and VIP admission is $225. Investigators said this incident also stemmed from a verbal dispute between the victim and an adult male suspect that escalated into a stabbing. Christina Rodriguez, M.D., Medical Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified non-invasive cardiologist and one of only two physicians in the Southern Los Angeles and Orange County region specializing in advanced cardiac imaging. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the heart without ionizing radiation. During the exam, patients lie on a table that moves into the MRI scanner while images are taken of the heart's structure, function and blood flow. Cardiac MRI can detect heart muscle damage, valve disease, inflammation, congenital heart defects and early signs of coronary artery disease that may not be visible with other imaging tests. "There are so many different minimally invasive and noninvasive ways to look into the heart," said Dr. Rodriguez. "I plan to continue bringing new advanced technologies and services to our program to help patients with advanced heart conditions." Dr. Rodriguez is also focused on advancing women's heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, and symptoms are often different than in men. Women are also more likely to develop microvascular dysfunction, a disease affecting the heart's smallest blood vessels that can be difficult to diagnose. "With the introduction of stress cardiac MRI at Long Beach Medical Center, we will better understand how microvascular dysfunction affects women, it is one of our main focuses in our Women's Heart Center," Dr. Rodriguez said. "First and foremost, I am a cardiologist who happens to be specialized in advanced cardiac imaging," she added. According to investigators, the theft occurred on June 5, 2026, at approximately 2:49 a.m. Surveillance footage shows two suspects approaching a cage located outside a residence. The suspects allegedly opened the cage, removed a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, and fled northbound on Cortner Avenue on foot before reportedly entering a black sedan. Police described the suspects as: • Suspect #1: Male, wearing a blue hoodie, jeans, and white shoes. • Suspect #2: Male, wearing dark clothing and dark-colored shoes. The vehicle involved is described as a black sedan. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 6:51 p.m. Thursday and arrived within five minutes of the initial call. Upon arrival, officers immediately began dispersing the crowd. During the gathering, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, resulting in several juveniles being detained. Police maintained a presence in the area throughout the evening as some members of the crowd remained despite repeated announcements regarding the city’s curfew laws. Officials also said the city did not have jurisdiction over the exercise’s operational details. No emergencies or public safety threats were reported in connection with the training.
