Daily Highlights
- Two public-facing Parks, Recreation and Marine employees have tested positive for COVID-19, including:
- An employee assigned to the Community Recreation Services Bureau, who is not a Long Beach resident. They were last at work on Dec. 4 and are now recovering at home.
- An employee assigned to the Marine Bureau, who is a Long Beach resident. They were last at work on Dec. 7 and are now recovering at home.
- Due to a significant surge in COVID-19 cases, the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) announced it will continue to provide most instruction through distance learning until at least March 1 rather than starting in-person classes on Jan. 28 as previously intended. - The City, in partnership with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and participating agencies, will host a free drive-through food distribution on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at Cabrillo High School, 2001 Santa Fe Ave. Line formation begins at 8:30 a.m.; walk-ups will not be allowed.
- Following a high demand for early childhood development materials, the City will distribute an additional 1,000 developmental kits for children from birth to five years. The kits are available for Long Beach residents only and include books, art supplies and other materials. The distributions will be held at the following locations on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last:
