Daily Highlights
- The case count over the past month, from Nov. 16 to Dec. 16, has accounted for 42% of all cases in Long Beach since the first COVID-19 cases were reported in March. The average number of new daily cases is now 543, a 142% increase over the past two weeks and a 1,292% increase since the beginning of the surge. Similarly, the number of average daily hospitalizations increased 408% from Nov. 10 to Dec. 10.
- Today, the City announced that COVID-19 vaccinations to frontline healthcare workers have begun. Brandon Gatling, a registered nurse at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, was among the first in Long Beach to receive the lifesaving vaccine.
- Applications are now available for the new Long Beach Outdoor Dining Grant Program, which will provide financial relief to Long Beach bars, breweries, distilleries, restaurants and wineries. It will administer grants up to $10,000 to reimburse a variety of existing eligible expenses associated with operating outdoors. Eligible expenses must have been incurred between June 1, 2020 and Dec. 28, 2020.
- Long Beach today released its Christmas 2020 and New Year’s 2021 holiday schedule for City services. The City is reminding all residents and visitors to comply with the Safer at Home Order and Regional Stay at Home Order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 as cases continue to surge.
