LONG BEACH — A box truck slammed into a car and then plowed through a cinderblock wall along Seventh Street near Cal State Long Beach on Wednesday morning, killing one man and leaving three others injured, authorities said.
The collision happened shortly after 11:45 a.m. on Seventh Street just west of Silvera Avenue, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Brian Fisk.
Police said the truck struck a black Tesla sedan before careening through the wall on the south side of the street, which borders a residential neighborhood. The impact left the box truck wedged at an angle in the wreckage.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free three men trapped inside the truck, Fisk said. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The Tesla, left with a mangled front end and facing the wrong direction, was also heavily damaged. Its driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the crash. The identity of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Seventh Street was closed between Pepper Tree Lane and Campus Drive for several hours as police investigated.
