Long Beach COVID-19 City Update: 4.3

By the Numbers (Long Beach only):

• 171 positive results, including approximately 40* cases where people have recovered.
  • A total of three deaths have now been reported. The third individual was a woman in her 60s who had underlying health conditions. She passed away at a hospital in Long Beach.
  • Positive cases have been confirmed at the following long-term care facilities:
    • Palmcrest Grand Assisted Living
    • Long Beach Healthcare Center
    • Pacific Palms Healthcare
    • Bixby Knolls Towers

The City is not publicly reporting the number of cases at long-term care facilities, as the numbers may be constantly changing throughout this health emergency.

*Please note that, for low-risk patients recovering at home, recovery data is self-reported. The City will update this number to the best of its ability, but can only provide an approximate total.

Tracking the Curve

• The Daily Media Update on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will now feature a link to additional graphics and data from the Health Department. This information is accurate as of the prior evening, so the total case count will vary from the number at the top of the Daily Media Update.

Today’s Highlights:

• The City of Long Beach will host a press conference today at 3:00 p.m. with Mayor Robert Garcia and Dr. Anissa Davis, plus a Spanish-language recap by Alice Castellanos, an interpreter with the Long Beach Health Department. The event will be live streamed on the City’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. To maintain physical distancing, media questions must be emailed by 1:00 p.m. to jic@longbeach.gov. Questions may also be submitted in real time via Facebook and Twitter.
• The City is taking extensive measures to prepare for an influx in individuals seeking medical care in response to COVID-19. More information will be provided in a press release later today.
• The City of Long Beach has opened new shelters at Silverado Park, 1545 W. 31st St., and at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (King Park), 1950 Lemon Ave.
• Longshore workers at the Port of Long Beach are currently working a total of 15 vessels.

Safer at Home Order

• Two new Health Orders are now in effect, which requires individuals with COVID-19 to self-isolate, and those at risk to self-quarantine (4/01)

• Alert Long Beach to receive emergency notifications.
• Long Beach Police and Fire departments remain fully committed to the ongoing City efforts to ensure the safety and health of its community members. The City is working to supply every public safety professional going out on a call with personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure the safety of both first responders and the public.
• This public health emergency has no impact on the quality or supply of Long Beach’s tap water and should not disrupt water or sewer service to Long Beach Water’s customers.
• The Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners approved enforcement of the City’s March 28 Health Order to, as a last resort, shut off water service to non-essential businesses operating in violation of the health order.
• The City encourages everyone to create a family action plan. Designate a room to separate sick household members from others; ensure access to medication, food and other essentials; and create an emergency contact list.
