Details Regarding Fatalities:
- 66 are associated with long-term care facilities
- One individual was in their 40s, five individuals were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 22 were in their 70s, 24 were in their 80s, and 16 were over 90 years old
- 47 individuals were men and 38 were women
- All individuals had underlying health conditions
- At this time, to avoid risk to patient privacy, no further details will be provided
Long-Term Care Facility Case Information:
- 501 positive cases have been confirmed at a total of 25 long-term care facilities in the city since the start of the pandemic
- Twenty-five is a cumulative number; the Health Department is currently monitoring long-term care facilities with active cases. These cases include both facility residents and staff members (who may not be residents).
- Long Beach has a total of 71 long-term care facilities (LTCF), including assisted living and skilled nursing, that are currently open and operating in the city.
- In line with the California Department of Public Health’s standard for listing skilled nursing facilities with positive cases, the City is listing facilities currently experiencing outbreaks (more than two cases of COVID-19) including counts for health care workers and residents.

Today’s Highlights
- A new health order will be issued later today allowing hair salons, barbershops and restaurants to reopen, with guidelines designed to protect employees and patrons. This comes after health jurisdictions in Los Angeles County received a variance from the State allowing further reopening. More information to be provided in a press release later today.
- As part of the City’s Open Streets Initiative, temporary “parklets” have been established in the Bixby Knolls, Belmont Shore and Downtown areas to support businesses and restaurants in their reopening efforts. The parklets — extensions of sidewalks into parking spaces and streets — will provide safe areas for customers to enjoy while waiting to pick up food or merchandise at local businesses and may also be used as common areas for outdoor dining. - Today, the City announced the launch of a free home meal delivery service for older adults, with meals supplied by Long Beach food providers and restaurants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Great Plates Delivered Program will deliver up to three nutritious meals daily to up to 600 qualified older adults.
- Reminder: Long Beach residents who do not have symptoms for COVID-19 can get tested at the Cabrillo High School location beginning Saturday, May 30. The testing site is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., seven days a week and appointments are required. View the press release.
