Man shot and killed in mid Long Beach. On Tuesda

Man shot and killed in mid Long Beach.

On Tuesday at 4:16 PM., Long Beach police officers were dispatched to a shooting call in the 700 block of Cerritos Avenue.

When LBPD officers arrived they located a male adult victim deceased in the alley, with a gunshot wound to his upper torso said LBPD Detective Jennifer Arzola. The Long Beach Fire Department determined the male adult victim deceased at the scene. Suspect information and motive is unknown at this time, homicide detectives were on-scene.

The investigation is ongoing

City of Long Beach Unveils Proposed 2021 Budget. T

City of Long Beach Unveils Proposed 2021 Budget. The Proposed FY 21 Budget is $2.6 billion and continues the tradition of providing a diverse array of services addressing the City Council’s priorities while emphasizing good financial management and policies. To resolve a projected FY 21 $30 million General Fund shortfall, the proposed budget is balanced and relies on a multi-faceted strategy of assistance from City employees, new or reallocated revenues, strategic investments, efficiency improvements, and service reductions. The Proposed FY 21 Budget includes funding for the continued COVID-19 response, invests in racial reconciliation work and uses a multi-step balanced-outcome-based approach to solve the $30 million budget shortfall while maintaining core services in a balanced way. These solutions for the structural shortfall include:

$18.8 million in Department reductions across all departments, totaling a reduction of 136 positions (77 filled and 59 vacant).
$2.5 million in investment in Racial Equity initiatives.
Up to $11 million in employee furloughs or other solutions through negotiations of long-term contracts, preventing additional service reductions and sparing up to 106 additional layoffs.

Long Beach Airport Sees Uptick in Flights.

@lgbairport continues to see a slow but steady recovery in flight schedules, up from a low of six flights on multiple days in April to the current average of 18 to 20 flights daily. Recent schedule changes by Delta Air Lines also point to modest improvement in the leisure travel segment. Delta’s recently published schedule indicates it will resume flights from LGB on August 1, a month ahead of schedule. Delta had previously announced a temporary consolidation of flight service in May, which led to a suspension of flights from Long Beach and several other markets. The carrier will initially operate two daily nonstop flights to Salt Lake City, with service expected to increase to five daily flights (destinations not yet determined) beginning October 1.

“We are pleased that Delta will resume some of their flights earlier than expected,” said LGB Director Cynthia Guidry. “We know the road to recovery for air travel is long, but we are prepared to meet the demand as it grows.”

With Delta re-starting flights on August 1, LGB’s flight schedule will offer service from four carriers (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines). According to August schedules, JetBlue is expected to operate two to seven flights per day and American Airlines will operate one daily flight to Phoenix. Hawaiian Airlines has not yet resumed service, due to the ongoing quarantine put in place by the state of Hawaii.

In response to JetBlue’s recent announcement that it will relinquish the remainder of its flight slots in October, LGB will commence the formal process of redistributing the 17 permanent slots via an established waiting list that already includes Delta, Hawaiian and Southwest. Other certificated air carriers have until August 28 to request to be added to the waiting list so that they may participate in the allocation process.

With one of the strictest noise-controlled airports in the nation, LGB offers a total of 53 flight slots. Flight slot utilization requirements are currently waived due to the pandemic.

Long Beach man killed in hit-and-run. On Thursda

Long Beach man killed in hit-and-run.

On Thursday at 10:40 pm, Long Beach Police Officers responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. When they arrived on scene they located a male adult laying in the eastbound lanes of Anaheim Street just west of Magnolia Avenue. None of the vehicles involved were still on scene when officers arrived. The preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian had attempted to stop a theft at a local liquor store. In his efforts to stop the thief, he climbed on the hood of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect drove with the pedestrian on the hood for approximately three blocks before maneuvering the vehicle to get the pedestrian off the hood. The pedestrian fell off the hood of the vehicle into eastbound lanes of Anaheim Street where he was struck by a second vehicle, unrelated to the earlier theft.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded and performed life saving measures, however the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the first suspect vehicle is described as a male Black, approximately 40 years old, 5’7″ tall, skinny build, short dark hair and moustache. He was wearing a black short sleeved shirt and blue jeans. His vehicle is described as a silver four door sedan.

The second vehicle involved was described as a white utility style van.

The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office will assist in identifying the pedestrian and notifying next of kin.

15-year-old shot and wounded in Long Beach.

On Thursday at 10:55 am, Long Beach police officers were dispatched to the 40 block of West 49th Street regarding a no hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 15-year-old male victim with a minor injury to his lower torso. Long Beach Fire Department was contacted and the victim was treated on scene according to LBPD PIO Ivan Garcia.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s injury occurred when he tripped as he ran from the scene. The victim refused to provide any further information regarding the shooting.

No suspect information is available at this time.

Though the reason for the shooting is unknown, Gang Detectives are on scene conducting an investigation.

@longbeachpd.ca Looting Task Force Nets Multiple Arrests.

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) created a Looting Task Force in response to civil unrest that took place in the City of Long Beach on May 31, 2020.

The task force is comprised of a specialized team of detectives, officers, and administrative staff with the primary focus of identifying and locating suspects involved in recent incidents of looting and criminal activity related to civil unrest. The taskforce has utilized video and photo evidence collected from various sources, including business and residential surveillance systems, social media, news coverage, and submissions to the LBPD’s online evidence portal, to identify suspects involved in looting and other criminal activity.

Formed on June 1, 2020, the task force operates Monday through Friday and has already arrested 14 suspects for various charges. See a list of all identified suspects on our website longbeachlocalnews.com
