Man shot to death near homeless encampment in Long Man shot to death near homeless encampment in Long Beach.

On Monday at 2:25 p.m., Long Beach police officers were dispatched to the area of the Southbound 405 freeway at the Northbound 710 freeway at the Los Angeles Riverbed regarding a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult. When LBPD officers arrived located a male adult victim near a homeless encampment who was unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the upper torso, and officers immediately began performing life-saving measures. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the victim, who resided at the encampment, was shot multiple times in the upper torso by an unknown suspect who fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. No weapons were located at the scene, and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to identify the decedent and notify the next of kin.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Adrian Garcia or Sean Magee at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the “P3 Tips” app to your smartphone (available at the Apple app store or Google Play), or by visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
Motorcyclist, 22-year-old male resident of Long Be Motorcyclist, 22-year-old male resident of Long Beach Killed after Collision with Building.

On Saturday at 11:00 a.m., LBPD officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 59th Street, which resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver.

When officers arrived, they located a 2009 Yamaha R6 which had collided into a building. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue from South Street, when he lost control, and collided with a building. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

At this time the driver is only being identified as a 22-year-old male resident of Long Beach, pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Kevin Matter or Detective Kelsey Myers at (562) 570-7355. New Electric Container Cranes at The @portoflongbe New Electric Container Cranes at The @portoflongbeach. SSA Marine is now operating the first of nine electric container yard cranes at the Port of Long Beach’s Pier J, marking a significant milestone in a goal to transition to zero emissions terminal equipment by 2030.

The demonstration of the electric rubber tired gantry cranes is part of the Zero-Emissions Terminal Equipment Transition Project, which is funded in large part by a $9.7 million California Energy Commission grant with additional cost share support from an Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 Diesel Emission Reduction Act grant. The Port, the CEC and Southern California Edison are partnering on the project to bring 25 vehicles that are zero- or near-zero emissions to three of the Port’s marine terminals and logistics truck provider Total Transportation Services Inc. to test their performance in a real-world setting.

“Imagine a port where a ship slows down on approach to reduce emissions, plugs into the electrical grid at berth instead of burning fuel to run vital systems, and is worked by zero-emissions cranes, yard vehicles and trucks,” said Port of Long Beach Executive Director Mario Cordero. “That’s our reality in Long Beach, and the goals of our tests and demonstrations are to eventually make it possible to do everywhere.”

“The future of the industry is zero emissions,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Frank Colonna. “The Port of Long Beach will continue to generate economic opportunity as we show that jobs and environmental sustainability can work together.”

“SSA Terminals is proud to partner with the Port to achieve our shared goal of implementing zero-emission cargo handling equipment,” said SSA Superintendent Scott Hainlen, the project coordinator. “We look forward to continuing this partnership with the Port as we explore all options to help do our part to continue to reduce our carbon footprint in Long Beach.”

In 2017, the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles approved an update to their Clean Air Action Plan, setting a goal of transitioning all terminal equipment to zero emissions by 2030. Learn more on our website #longbeach

Late last night, the exterior of the Long Beach Co Late last night, the exterior of the Long Beach Convention Center was vandalized. The incident is believed to be in reaction to the city’s decision to partner with the HHS in the housing of migrant children at the Long Beach Convention Center, who are currently detained at the border. The soon to be “emergency shelter” has been spray painted to read messages which express opposition to what some argue to be the inhumane treatment of children. The details of this incident are still obscure, and the parties responsible are yet to come forward explicitly.
