Tatsu Johnson Golf Tournament this September

The Johnson family of former Wilson high golfer, Luke Tatsu Johnson, hosts their third annual golf tournament and dinner at the Recreation Park Golf Course on September 27, as a fundraiser for cancer cures and scholarship money for high school golfers.

The Johnson family formed a foundation in 2017 when Todd and Rena lost their beloved son, Luke, to cancer in June 2016 at 16 years old. He was a golfer at Wilson High School himself.

The Luke Tatsu Johnson Foundation donated $10,000 of scholarship money to eight Wilson golfers in 2018. They also donated $20,000 worth of funds to Save Our Sick Kids, an organization for children suffering from secondary illnesses caused by primary life threatening diseases.

The Johnson family believes that smaller organizations have more of an impact on being proactive in finding cures of childhood cancer than bigger organizations, which is why they chose to donate to Save Our Sick Kids.

The following season when Luke passed, Wilson high football and baseball teams added Japanese style dragon logos to their helmets, hence Luke’s middle name, Tatsu.

The gold tournament starts at 1pm, followed by an auction and dinner at 6pm. More information and registration to participate in the tournament can be found here https://e.givesmart.com/events/dH0/.
