SWAT Responds to Barricaded Burglary Suspect in Lo SWAT Responds to Barricaded Burglary Suspect in Long Beach Home Long Beach police deployed SWAT resources Monday night after a burglary suspect barricaded himself inside a residence in the 4200 block of Lakewood Boulevard. Officers responded around 8:55 p.m. on May 4, 2026, to reports of a burglary in progress. When they arrived, police attempted to make contact with the suspect, who had locked himself inside the home of an adult male victim. Authorities quickly established a perimeter as the situation escalated. SWAT teams were called in to safely resolve the standoff. After a coordinated response, officers were able to take the suspect into custody without reported injuries. Police identified the suspect as Run Peov, a 47-year-old Long Beach resident. He was booked on charges of burglary and obstructing a peace officer, with bail set at $50,000. The investigation remains ongoing.

She was also taken to a hospital for treatment. In this case, police quickly located and arrested a suspect who had fled the scene. Police say the incident began as a confrontation between the victim and suspect that escalated into violence. The investigation is ongoing. While both victims are expected to survive, the back-to-back incidents have heightened anxiety among residents and business owners, particularly in busy areas of the city. Residents continue to call for increased police presence and expanded community outreach prevention programs. Officer Stabbed During Downtown Long Beach Confron Officer Stabbed During Downtown Long Beach Confrontation Near Grand Prix LONG BEACH, Calif. — A Long Beach police officer was stabbed during a violent confrontation Friday afternoon in downtown, prompting a large police response just blocks from the Long Beach Grand Prix. The incident occurred around 2:42 p.m. on April 17 in the 200 block of West Broadway, near First Street and Pacific Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Officers were responding to an unknown trouble call involving a possibly armed suspect. When they arrived, they located a man matching the description and attempted to de-escalate the situation. During the encounter, a use of force occurred, and the suspect produced a knife and stabbed an officer multiple times. Witnesses reported the confrontation stemmed from a dispute involving several individuals prior to police arrival. Four Department of Homeland Security federal air marshals working nearby witnessed the attack and rushed to assist officers, helping take the suspect into custody without further incident. The injured officer was taken to a hospital, treated, and later released. “This officer put himself in harm’s way in the defense of others and sustained serious injuries in doing so,” Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish said. “I am very grateful that he is going to recover.” The suspect, identified as Arturo Fernandez, a 44-year-old Torrance resident, was arrested at the scene. After being medically cleared at a hospital, he was booked into Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Bail was set at $1 million. Police recovered the knife at the scene. The incident drew a heavy police presence, with more than a dozen patrol vehicles shutting down nearby streets.

When officers arrived, they discovered the call was actually an assault with a deadly weapon. At the scene, officers located a teenage female victim suffering from a stab wound to her upper body. Personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department treated the victim at the scene. Her condition has not been released. Investigators say the incident stemmed from a fight between the victim and the suspect that escalated, leading to the stabbing. The suspect fled before officers arrived and has not been located. The investigation remains ongoing.

Officers responded around 9:20 p.m. on April 11 to the area of Cherry Avenue and Artesia Boulevard, where they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was unconscious and not breathing at the scene. Fire personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Investigators recovered multiple shell casings near a gas station in the area, and several nearby vehicles were also struck by gunfire. People Over Politics’: Sequoia Neff Brings Public People Over Politics’: Sequoia Neff Brings Public Safety Focus to District 9 Race LONG BEACH, Calif. — @longbeachneff Sequoia Neff, a North Long Beach resident, business owner and youth mentor, has announced her candidacy for the 2026 City Council race in District 9, challenging incumbent Joni Ricks-Oddie. Neff, founder of a multi-state brokerage, is centering her campaign on public safety, economic growth and neighborhood investment, saying North Long Beach has been “overlooked for too long.” A Long Beach native, Neff grew up near Houghton Park and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. As a young parent, she started a youth track club and basketball league to support underserved children. With nearly 20 years in real estate, Neff says she understands local housing challenges and the struggles facing small businesses. Her public safety plan includes increasing police patrols, hiring more officers, expanding technology like cameras and license plate readers, and strengthening enforcement against repeat offenders. She also calls for improved lighting and stronger neighborhood watch programs. Neff is also focusing on human trafficking and prostitution along the Long Beach Boulevard corridor, proposing targeted enforcement, stricter penalties near schools, and expanded services for victims. On traffic safety, she supports cracking down on street takeovers, restoring traffic enforcement, and adding improvements like traffic calming measures and safer pedestrian crossings. Her platform also includes boosting small businesses through grants and programs, attracting more retail, and addressing illegal dumping with stronger enforcement and cleanup efforts. Neff is currently the only declared challenger in the District 9 race. Ricks-Oddie has represented the area since 2022. Seven Arrested in Long Beach Police Operation Targ Seven Arrested in Long Beach Police Operation Targeting Sex Work Activity Long Beach, CA — A month-long enforcement operation by the Long Beach Police Department led to seven arrests tied to commercial sex work along the Long Beach Boulevard corridor. Throughout March 2026, North Division officers worked with the High Crime Focus Team and Societal Crimes Section to address community concerns related to prostitution and human trafficking. Those arrested include: Briana Hoyem, 28, of Long Beach, arrested March 25 and again on March 31 David Lozano, 39, of Los Angeles, arrested March 25 Azora Mack, 22, of Fresno, arrested March 25 Eduardo Cortez, 27, of Long Beach, arrested March 25 Alex Palma, 38, of Long Beach, arrested March 31 Police say six individuals were arrested for solicitation-related offenses, and three vehicles were towed. Those arrested include Briana Hoyem, 28, of Long Beach; David Lozano, 39, of Los Angeles; Azora Mack, 22, of Fresno; Eduardo Cortez, 27, of Long Beach; and Alex Palma, 38, of Long Beach. In a separate but related case, officers responded to the 6400 block of Long Beach Boulevard on March 21 at about 12:28 a.m. after reports of a robbery. Investigators say a man pointed a gun at a commercial sex worker and attempted to rob her. Officers later located the suspect, recovered a firearm, and arrested Blazie Douglas, 34, of Long Beach. He was booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, soliciting prostitution, and an outstanding warrant. He is being held without bail. “Efforts like these reflect our continued commitment to addressing illegal activity while prioritizing the safety and dignity of those impacted by exploitation,” said Police Chief Wally Hebeish. Police say officers also provided information about support services to individuals encountered during the operation. City officials fired First to Serve, the nonprofit that operated 423 of the city’s 500 shelter beds and received $13–14 million annually for shelter operations, rapid rehousing, and prevention programs. The audit, launched in 2023 by City Auditor Laura Doud, raised serious concerns about billing practices, documentation, and whether services were fully delivered. Mayor Rex Richardson declined to discuss potential fraud, stating, “I can’t get into the investigation.” He confirmed the termination was based on audit findings. The controversy gained further attention when mayoral candidate Chris Sweeney @sweeney4lbmayor went to the location and pointed out the existence of “ghost tenants” within the system, saying shelters were reporting higher occupancy than what was actually observed. Man Stabbed at Long Beach Metro Train Station, Hos Man Stabbed at Long Beach Metro Train Station, Hospitalized A man was hospitalized after a stabbing at a Metro station in Long Beach early Wednesday morning, according to police. Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded around 5 a.m. to the Pacific Metro station near Pacific Avenue and 5th Street. Upon arrival, they located a man suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital. His condition has not been disclosed. Investigators have not yet determined what led up to the stabbing, and no arrests have been made as the investigation remains ongoing. In response to the incident, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority issued an alert advising riders that bus shuttles are temporarily replacing train service between the Pacific and Anaheim stations due to police activity.

Saturday’s demonstrations are believed to be among the largest yet, with millions of people expected to participate nationwide in more than 3,000 events.  In Long Beach, the protest remained largely peaceful, with participants emphasizing unity, democracy, and community engagement as they gathered throughout the afternoon.
