Suspicious package found during shooting investigation

On Tuesday at approximately 5:30 p.m., while investigating a hit shooting in the area of Artesia Boulevard and the Los Angeles River, officer located a suspicious package with in the crime scene said LBPD PIO Ivan Garcia.

The area was cleared and Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Bomb Squad was requested. 

Vehicle traffic was impacted between Atlantic Avenue and the 710 freeway. 

The Bomb Squad arrived on scene and rendered the package safe. 

Earlier on Tuesday at approximately 2:30PM LBPD officers were dispatched to the area of Artesia Boulevard and the Los Angeles River regarding a hit-shooting. 

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult who had gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso. 

Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital and his condition is believed to be non-life threatening. 

There is no suspect description available at this time and the reason for the shooting is unknown. 

The investigation is ongoing.
