PETA Offers $5,000 Reward as Shocking Dog Abuse Case in Long Beach Sparks Outrage

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A horrifying act of animal abuse caught on surveillance video is now under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department, and PETA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible.

The brutal incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of East 12th Street. The graphic footage shows a man lifting a dog off the ground by its leash, slamming it into the pavement, and then kicking the animal in the head. Moments later, he is seen hoisting the limp dog again and walking away with the animal hanging behind his back.

The suspect was last seen wearing light brown pants, a red flannel shirt, a black backpack, and carrying a skateboard.

The disturbing video was first shared on Instagram by the @kriskellyfoundation, a local animal rescue organization. The post quickly went viral, drawing hundreds of comments from outraged viewers. One commenter wrote, “Somedays I just am embarrassed to be a part of mankind. This has to be one of the worst cases of abuse I have seen on IG,” expressing fears the dog may not have survived the attack.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Long Beach Police Department confirmed officers responded to the scene and took an animal cruelty report.

“Animal abuse is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our community. The investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact non-emergency dispatch at 562-435-6711,” the department wrote.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is now stepping in, offering a $5,000 reward for tips that lead to justice.

“Anyone capable of such violence poses a danger to animals and people alike,” said a PETA spokesperson. “We urge anyone who recognizes this individual to come forward immediately.”
