Two Arrested in Death of 14-Month-Old Girl in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Homicide detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the child abuse and death of a 14-month-old girl, authorities announced.

On Nov. 7, 2025, officers responded to a local hospital after receiving a report of a possible child abuse incident involving an unresponsive toddler who showed signs of trauma. Child Abuse detectives responded and coordinated with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) as part of the investigation.

Later that same day, medical staff informed investigators that the child had been placed on life support and was not expected to survive. Homicide detectives joined the investigation, working alongside Child Abuse detectives, DCFS, and patrol officers.

The child died on Nov. 10, 2025. Her identity is being withheld due to her age.

According to investigators, a two-week investigation determined the child had been subjected to ongoing abuse and that her death was the result of injuries inflicted by her father and stepmother.

On Nov. 25, 2025, detectives arrested both suspects and booked them into the Long Beach City Jail with no bail:

  • Alfredo Munoz, 40, of Long Beach, booked on suspicion of murder, torture, and child abuse causing death.
  • Kelly Munoz, 34, of Long Beach, booked on suspicion of murder, torture, and child abuse causing death.

Detectives plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office next week for filing consideration. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact authorities.
