According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 6:51 p.m. Thursday and arrived within five minutes of the initial call. Upon arrival, officers immediately began dispersing the crowd. During the gathering, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, resulting in several juveniles being detained. Police maintained a presence in the area throughout the evening as some members of the crowd remained despite repeated announcements regarding the city’s curfew laws. By 9:45 p.m., officers cited five juveniles for curfew violations and transported them to their guardians. “We encourage everyone to enjoy the permitted events taking place in our city,” said Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish. “Large-scale disturbances like this deplete our resources and divert our officers from addressing other safety concerns in Long Beach, including emergency responses.” Chief Hebeish added that the department will maintain an enhanced police presence throughout the weekend and warned that violent behavior and law violations will not be tolerated. Police are encouraging residents to follow the “See Something, Say Something” philosophy and report suspicious or unusual activity. Long Beach Launches “Soccer in the LBC” Summer Cel Long Beach Launches “Soccer in the LBC” Summer Celebration Long Beach is gearing up for a summer of soccer with the launch of “Soccer in the LBC,” a citywide series of free fan experiences, cultural celebrations and community events taking place throughout this summer’s global soccer tournament. The incident occurred on May 30, 2026, at approximately 7:01 p.m. Officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and arrived to find an adult male suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. According to a preliminary investigation, the victim and an adult male suspect were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into violence when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim. The shooting occurred on May 28 at approximately 12:32 p.m. near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where he later died. The suspect fled before officers arrived, launching an intensive investigation involving homicide detectives, SWAT personnel, patrol officers, and specialized investigative units. Police said detectives quickly identified the suspect as a 15-year-old Long Beach resident. On May 29, detectives with the Special Investigations Division located and arrested him in Lakewood. The juvenile was booked for murder and minor in possession of a firearm before being transported to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, where he is being held without bail. “I am deeply troubled by the killing of a 15-year-old and it is extremely alarming that the suspect believed responsible is also 15 years old,” Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish said in a statement. “The Long Beach Police Department will never allow youth violence to be normalized in our community.” Hebeish credited officers and detectives for quickly securing evidence, identifying the suspect, and making an arrest less than 24 hours after the shooting. Then, around 3:09 a.m., officers responded to another stabbing in the 3200 block of East Anaheim Street. Officers located a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No arrests have been announced in any of the incidents. The back-to-back acts of violence have sparked renewed criticism from residents questioning city leadership and public safety efforts ahead of next week’s election. Some residents are asking where Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson has been as shootings, stabbings, and violent crime continue making headlines across the city. All four investigations remain ongoing.

According to police, patrol officers, the High Crime Focus Team, and Burglary Detail have spent the past several months investigating an increase in copper theft incidents throughout the region. Authorities say the crimes have damaged city lighting infrastructure and created public safety concerns. At approximately 3:26 a.m., a North Division patrol sergeant in the 3600 block of Orange Avenue observed a man allegedly tampering with wiring connected to a city light fixture. After detaining the suspect, officers reportedly discovered about 39 pounds of wiring believed to have been stolen from city light pole infrastructure, along with tools used to remove wiring. Investigators also found additional vandalism to city lighting infrastructure in the 3500 and 3600 blocks of Orange Avenue. The suspect was identified as Saul Chavez Viveros, a 30-year-old Long Beach resident. He was booked for grand theft and felony vandalism. Bail is pending magistrate review. Police said copper theft remains a serious issue because stolen wiring can leave streets darkened, increase repair costs, and create hazardous conditions for residents and drivers. When crews arrived, they discovered a construction-related collapse and upgraded the incident to a trench rescue response. Firefighters worked to remove three victims trapped in the trench. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional victims were rescued and transported to local trauma centers for medical treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released. The collapse prompted a large emergency response as rescue crews worked to stabilize the scene and safely extract the victims from the trench. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Officials have not yet released the identity of the man who died.

Police said the collision occurred around 4:39 p.m. on May 16 near Paramount Boulevard and 56th Street. Officers responded to reports of a vehicle striking a child in the roadway. When officers arrived, personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department were providing emergency medical aid to the child. The child was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries. The child was possibly around eight-years-old. The preliminary investigation found that a 2020 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Paramount Boulevard when the child reportedly ran into the street and was struck by the vehicle. The driver, identified only as a 27-year-old man from Paramount, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Investigators said speed, distracted driving, and driving under the influence are not believed to have been factors in the collision. “Our hearts are with this young child’s family, and everyone affected by this terrible traffic collision,” said Police Chief Wally Hebeish. “This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly unexpected tragedies can occur and is a solemn reminder of the importance of doing all we can to ensure everyone’s safety on our roadways.” The investigation remains ongoing. Despite the cancellation of the festival in its original form, City leaders and the Convention Center reportedly offered alternative venues, including the Terrace Theater plaza for up to 3,000 attendees or the Bixby Park bandshell for a free public concert. Officials said alcohol sales and fenced-off areas would not have been allowed because of the shortened timeline. Mayor Rex Richardson also offered to privately raise up to $50,000 to support either option, but organizers declined. The City emphasized that Pride celebrations will continue across Long Beach throughout the weekend, including Sunday’s Long Beach Pride Parade at 10 a.m., which the City says it has funded and operated for the past three years. Officials also announced additional transit services, extra restroom facilities along Broadway, and a free drag show and live music event Sunday at Bixby Park hosted by Jewels of Long Beach.
