Woman killed and man critically injured in West Long Beach shooting

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., LBPD officers in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and West 19th Street heard gunshots nearby. While canvassing the area, officers located a male and a female adult victim, both with gunshot wounds to their upper torso, in the 1600 block of West 19th Street.

Long Beach Officers immediately began lifesaving measures on the female victim, until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The Long Beach Fire Department transported each victim to a local hospital. The male victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The female victim succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

Officers quickly learned the suspect was inside a residence in the 1600 block of West 19th Street. A perimeter was established around the residence and the suspect surrendered to officers shortly thereafter. During a search of the residence, officers located and seized the firearm believed to be used in the shooting.

Detectives are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. At this time, evidence suggests there was a long-term, ongoing personal dispute between the suspect and the victims. The shooting occurred after the suspect observed the victims in front of his residence and walked outside to confront them.

The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Jesus Romero of Long Beach. He was transported to the Long Beach City Jail where he was booked on one count of murder and one count of attempt murder. He is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

A female adult was also detained, but was later released and not booked.

The female victim has been identified as 63-year-old Raquel Bramasco DeDavila of Long Beach.

Detectives anticipate presenting their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney early next week.
