Take a Slice out of Pie Day

A staple food to America is celebrating its day on Jan. 23, it’s scrumptious, it’s filling, it’s what we love to devour over thanksgiving and give to our friendly new neighbors. Can you guess it? It’s National Pie Day, and LBLN has five fun facts about America’s favorite dessert and five places where you can indulge in a slice (or a whole pie).

  • A pie is a baked dish normally made of a pastry dough casing that covers or completely contains a filling of sweet and/or savory ingredients and is one of our country’s most popular desserts.
  • In the 19th century, fruit pies were a popular breakfast dish.
  • American has voted that apple pie is their favorite.
  • 1 in 5 Americans claim to have eaten an entire pie by themselves.
  • The first pie was made in Egypt in 9500 BC – how did it make it over here??

If these fun facts have you craving a sweet treat, here are five places in Long Beach where you can pick up a pie.

The Pie Bar has something for everyone; vegan pies, gluten-free pies, sugar-free pies, sweet pies, savory pies, and pie shots. They are known for their cutie pies, which are individual servings of pie in an 8oz mason jar. Use the promo code ‘pieday’ for the wholesale pie sale on Wed. The Pie Bar pies can be purchased at PRIME by Shenandoah, Berlin Bistro, and Portfolio Coffeehouse.

Polly’s Pies is a popular chain that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but has an impressive selection of, you guessed it, pie. They offer double-crust pie, cream pies, and pie shakes. Their specialty pies include Apple Crisp pie, Chocolate Silk and Southern Style pecan. All pies will be $9.99 from Jan. 23 – 26. There are two locations in Long Beach, one at 4680 Los Coyotes Diagonal and the other at 3490 Atlantic Ave.
