Fatal single vehicle traffic collision in Long Beach
On Thursday, March 26, 2020 at approximately 2:06 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Bellflower Boulevard regarding a single vehicle, injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious male in the vehicle.

Long Beach Fire personnel arrived on scene and administered medical aid to the driver, however he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed, southbound on Bellflower Boulevard when he hit a dip in the road as he crossed E. 7th Street. In doing so, the 24-year-old driver from Long Beach, David Shelton Jr., lost control of his vehicle leaving over 225 feet of skid marks before running into a fire hydrant and a shopping center sign.
Shelton was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and it is unknown if alcohol, drugs or distracted driving was a factor in this collision.
