Man shot, wounded this morning in Scherer Park

On Wednesday at 4:05 am, LBPD officers at the North Patrol Substation heard a gunshot at a nearby park and immediately responded.

When officers arrived they discovered a male adult suspect fleeing the scene and engaged in a foot pursuit before losing sight of the suspect.

Additional police officers responded to an adult male victim in the park who had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire arrived.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers located evidence nearby, including a firearm and bullet casings.

The motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
