Woman shot and killed at gas station in Long Beach

On Sunday at approximately 3:30 p.m., LBPD officers were dispatched to the area of Artesia Boulevard and Cherry Avenue regarding a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a female adult victim with gunshot wounds and immediately began rendering aid.  The victim was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire where she succumbed to her injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect shot the female at a gas station before fleeing the area.  The motive for the shooting is under investigation.  A short while later, LBPD officers located a possible suspect and attempted to contact him.

The suspect fled the area in a vehicle, resulting in a department-authorized pursuit.  Eventually the suspect was taken into custody by LAPD.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating the incident and additional information will be available in a news release tomorrow.
