LBLN Weekend Round-up

It is Labor Day Weekend and Long Beach Local News has compiled a round-up you won’t want to miss this long weekend. We also have a list of all city closures this Monday in observance of Labor Day. Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!

FRIDAY

The Andy Dane Carter Group is holding Naples Book Drive from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Donated books will go to Long Beach elementary schools and ice cream will be provided by the group. The book drive will be at the Colonnade Park located at 10 The Colonnade Park.

The Art Renzei Art Festival is wrapping up this weekend. The festival is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Sunday’s closing party running from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, visit our article about the event here.

Bixby Knoll’s September First Fridays will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. As usual, there will be live music, shopping, food, and beverages. This month will also feature salsa dancing lessons at 9:30 p.m. in the Expo Arts Center parking lot. Inside the Expo Arts Center, attendees can learn about the history behind the Mole dish, admire Guatemalan artwork, and participate in crafts such as a Frida Kahlo-inspired flower headband. First Fridays go from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Bixby Knolls. The Expo Arts Center is located at 4321 Atlantic Ave.

SATURDAY

If you love all things nerdy, the Long Beach Comic Con is back at the Long Beach Convention Center this weekend. Special guests include bodybuilder and actor Lou Ferringo (‘The Incredible Hulk’, ‘Hercules’), cosplayer Tara Cosplay and writer Blake Northcott (‘Arena Mode’). The convention is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets range from $25 to $65 and tickets are available for purchase both on the website and on-site. Cosplaying is welcome and there will be a costume contest at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Space Expo will also be on-site inside the convention. The Long Beach Convention Center is located at 300 E. Ocean Blvd.

We Liming, Socal’s Caribbean meet-up group is hosting Lime on the Beach at Junipero Beach from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be live music, beach games, and other activities. Food and beverages will not be available for purchase. Junipero Beach is located at 1 Junipero Ave.

Long Beach Greek Festival will be at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Attendees can enjoy a dance floor, live Greek music, delicious food and drinks, and opportunity drawings. Admission is $5. The church is at 5761 E. Colorado St. -waiting to hear back regarding hours.

SUNDAY

32 Holland Festival Long Beach is a great outdoor festival celebrating the shared cultural heritage of the Netherlands and Indonesia. The festival will include live music, authentic Dutch and Indonesian food, arts and crafts, vendors, and fun children’s games. Ticket prices are $9.50 through Eventbrite and $10 at the door. Children age 12 and under get in free. The festival will be held at Gemmrig Park at 7390 E. Carson Ave.

MONDAY
No Parking on the Dance Floor is a free family-friendly event that will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the parking lot off 4th St and Cherry Ave. Attendees can enjoy live performances, DJs, and vendors. Donations are requested. The parking lot is located at 2018 E. 4th St.

If you’re planning to head out on Labor Day, the City of Long Beach has announced the following modified schedule:

City Hall
City Hall offices and public services will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, including commercial services typically available in the City Hall lobby such as Cashiering/Payment Processing, Utility Customer Service, Billing and Collections, and Parking Citations. The public is encouraged to continue taking advantage of the convenient online resources available on the City of Long Beach website, as well as bill payment options available on the Financial Services website.
Street Sweeping
There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Monday, Sept. 5. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Parking Enforcement
Read your parking meter: Citywide parking violations, including parking meters, will be enforced on Monday, Sept. 5, unless the meter states “Exempt on Holidays.” The days and hours of enforcement are displayed inside the meters.
Refuse/Recycling
Trash and Recycling will be collected as scheduled on Monday, Sept. 5.
Towing and Lien Sales
The Towing Operations & Vehicle Storage Facility, located at 3111 E. Willow St. between Temple Avenue and Redondo Avenue, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5. Normal business hours are:
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Closed Sunday and holidays.

Vehicles and property are available for release outside of the hours listed above for an additional fee. More information can be found online.
Libraries
In observance of Labor Day, all Library locations and services, including the Library main phone line, will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 3. Libraries are not open Sundays or Mondays per their normal schedule. Library patrons are encouraged to utilize the Library’s vast collection of digital resources, including the Library catalog, downloads, and databases, which are available 24/7.
