Police Shoot Man Brandishing Replica Gun at Long Beach Metro Station

A man was shot and injured by police Wednesday night at the Pacific Avenue Station in Long Beach after brandishing what was later determined to be a replica firearm, according to authorities.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. when officers responded to multiple reports of a man displaying a gun on the platform at the Metro station located on West 5th Street and Pacific Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) reported.

Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to flee the scene, prompting officers to pursue him on foot. During the chase, an officer-involved shooting took place, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher confirmed.

In the aftermath of the shooting officers approaching the injured suspect and kicking away what appeared to be a weapon. It was later confirmed to be a replica firearm.

Officers administered first aid at the scene before the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment and was medically cleared. He has since been transferred to Long Beach City Jail for booking, Gallagher added.

The Metro station was closed for several hours following the incident but reopened early Thursday morning. No details about the suspect’s identity or the reason for his presence at the station have been released. No officers were injured in the confrontation.
