Barricaded Suspect Arrested After Threatening to Start Fire Inside Long Beach Apartment Building

A man barricaded himself inside a Long Beach apartment building Monday night after allegedly threatening to start a fire, prompting officials to evacuate the area, officials said.

Long Beach Fire Department officials responded to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Chestnut Avenue about 9:50 p.m. for a report of a man who allegedly threatened to light a fire and burn the building.

Police were called to assist in the incident, said Jake Heflin of Long Beach Fire Department. SWAT was also at the scene.

The man is believed to be armed and the building was evacuated, Heflin said. Fire officials described him as being “hostile.”

A 52 year old male was taken into custody around 2:00am after 4 hour stand-off.. This individual was transported to a local area hospital by fire department paramedics for further evaluation and treatment. No other injuries reported during the incident.

No injuries have been reported.
