Arrests Made in Attacks Targeting Elderly Women

Long Beach Police announced Friday they made an arrest in connection with a series of robberies and assaults targeting the elderly in Long Beach.

Chief Luna announced the arrest of 39-year-old Melvin Earl Farmer Jr. of Lynwood. He was booked for residential robbery series involving elderly female victims, one sexual assault and one attempt sexual assault. The victims ranged in age from 63 to 95.

A 31-year-old woman was also arrested as an accomplice in the crimes, but Luna did not detail what her role was and she was not identified.

“We hope our community can rest a little easier tonight,” Luna said during a news conference Friday evening.

He said a motive for the crimes has not been determined and the incidents remain under investigation.
