Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on South Street

LONG BEACH, CA – On Sep. 1, 2022, at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers responded to the 3300 block of South Street regarding an injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle, laying in the westbound lanes of South Street, west of Downey Avenue. Officers rendered aid to the pedestrian until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and determined the pedestrian was deceased at the scene.

Through their preliminary investigation, officers determined the pedestrian was walking northbound across South Street, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a Honda that was being driven by an adult resident of the City of Lakewood. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office will work to identify the decedent and notify the next of kin.
