The Nationwide Women’s Wave Weekend march comes to Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA – A Women’s March for reproductive rights hosted by Women Rising takes place on October 8th from 2-5 p.m. The march begins at the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse at  275 Magnolia Ave and finishes at Harvey Milk Park.

LB/OC Women Rising is aiming to unify women to fight for the rights of women everywhere.

Women’s Wave Weekend is taking place across the US as a response to proposed bills banning and regulating abortions. The organization is aggravated by recent Republican Senators hoping to pass a bill that bans abortions after 15 weeks. Both those who perform as well as receive the procedure after 15 weeks could be punished.

“Republicans introduced this bill in the Senate because they aren’t interested in letting states, or women, have autonomy. They want total control and that starts with taking our fundamental rights away from us,” said Executive Director Rachel O’Leary Carmona, in a statement responding to the bill proposition.

There will be a poster-making event at El Dorado Park West, 2800 N. Studebaker Rd. the day before the march on October 7th, from 5-7 p.m.

The march’s date is strategically one month before election day in hopes it will spark a month of taking action leading up to the polls.

On October 9th, the day after the march, there will be voter registration drives from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. around Long Beach.
