The most notable change is at Bayshore beach, which will feature limited access this year. The area will be completely fenced off and gated, with entry subject to overall beach capacity limits and mandatory bag and cooler checks. Prohibited items will not be allowed past the checkpoints. This decision to fence off a public beach for Independence Day highlights a classic debate over safety versus personal liberty. People argue that gates, capacity limits, and checkpoints are necessary tools to prevent overcrowding, illegal fireworks, and dangerous behavior, ensuring a safe environment for families. Critics, however, point out the irony of restricting public land with police checkpoints on a holiday celebrating freedom. Where to Watch Long Beach’s Fourth of July Firewor Where to Watch Long Beach’s Fourth of July Fireworks Besides Every Neighborhood Long Beach will celebrate the Fourth of July with three synchronized professional fireworks shows beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, stretching across the city’s coast. Fireworks barges will be near the Queen Mary, Junipero Beach (Cherry Avenue) and Granada Beach (Bay Shore Avenue). The displays are expected to be visible from much of the shoreline. Popular free viewing locations include Bixby Park, Bluff Park, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Junipero Beach, Granada Beach and the area near Rosie’s Dog Beach. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs or blankets. For a premium experience, the Queen Mary will host its annual Fourth of July celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. aboard the historic ship at 1126 Queens Highway. General admission is $75 for adults, $45 for children, and VIP admission is $225. Fireworks begin around 9 p.m. City officials are reminding residents that all personal fireworks, including sparklers and “safe and sane” fireworks, are illegal in Long Beach. The first stabbing occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. in the 1900 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Officers responded to reports of a stabbing and found an adult male suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to his upper body. Personnel with the Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigators determined the victim and an adult male suspect became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. No information about an arrest has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Later that day, at approximately 6:39 p.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Stanton Place after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with a non-life-threatening stab wound to his upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene, but he declined transportation to a hospital. Investigators said this incident also stemmed from a verbal dispute between the victim and an adult male suspect that escalated into a stabbing. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not indicated whether the two incidents are connected. Christina Rodriguez, M.D., Medical Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified non-invasive cardiologist and one of only two physicians in the Southern Los Angeles and Orange County region specializing in advanced cardiac imaging. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the heart without ionizing radiation. During the exam, patients lie on a table that moves into the MRI scanner while images are taken of the heart's structure, function and blood flow. Cardiac MRI can detect heart muscle damage, valve disease, inflammation, congenital heart defects and early signs of coronary artery disease that may not be visible with other imaging tests. "There are so many different minimally invasive and noninvasive ways to look into the heart," said Dr. Rodriguez. "I plan to continue bringing new advanced technologies and services to our program to help patients with advanced heart conditions." Dr. Rodriguez is also focused on advancing women's heart health. According to the Long Beach Fire Department, firefighters, including Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Task Force 6, were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m. Three people sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. According to investigators, the theft occurred on June 5, 2026, at approximately 2:49 a.m. Surveillance footage shows two suspects approaching a cage located outside a residence. The suspects allegedly opened the cage, removed a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, and fled northbound on Cortner Avenue on foot before reportedly entering a black sedan. Police described the suspects as: • Suspect #1: Male, wearing a blue hoodie, jeans, and white shoes. • Suspect #2: Male, wearing dark clothing and dark-colored shoes. The vehicle involved is described as a black sedan. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 6:51 p.m. Thursday and arrived within five minutes of the initial call. Upon arrival, officers immediately began dispersing the crowd. During the gathering, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, resulting in several juveniles being detained. Police maintained a presence in the area throughout the evening as some members of the crowd remained despite repeated announcements regarding the city’s curfew laws. By 9:45 p.m., officers cited five juveniles for curfew violations and transported them to their guardians. “We encourage everyone to enjoy the permitted events taking place in our city,” said Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish. “Large-scale disturbances like this deplete our resources and divert our officers from addressing other safety concerns in Long Beach, including emergency responses.” Chief Hebeish added that the department will maintain an enhanced police presence throughout the weekend and warned that violent behavior and law violations will not be tolerated. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded at approximately 8:28 p.m. on June 1 to the 1800 block of Harbor Avenue following reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a life-threatening stab wound. Officers immediately began rendering aid until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and took over medical treatment. Man Stabbed Near 400 Block Shorline in Long Beach; Man Stabbed Near 400 Block Shorline in Long Beach; Suspect Remains at Large A man was hospitalized Saturday evening after being stabbed in downtown Long Beach, according to police. The incident occurred on May 30, 2026, at approximately 7:01 p.m. Officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and arrived to find an adult male suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. According to a preliminary investigation, the victim and an adult male suspect were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into violence when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and has not been located. Police have not released a description of the suspect, and no arrests have been made. 15-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Teen in 15-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Teen in North Long Beach A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another 15-year-old in North Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The shooting occurred on May 28 at approximately 12:32 p.m. near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where he later died. The suspect fled before officers arrived, launching an intensive investigation involving homicide detectives, SWAT personnel, patrol officers, and specialized investigative units. Police said detectives quickly identified the suspect as a 15-year-old Long Beach resident. On May 29, detectives with the Special Investigations Division located and arrested him in Lakewood. The juvenile was booked for murder and minor in possession of a firearm before being transported to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, where he is being held without bail. “I am deeply troubled by the killing of a 15-year-old and it is extremely alarming that the suspect believed responsible is also 15 years old,” Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish said in a statement. “The Long Beach Police Department will never allow youth violence to be normalized in our community.” Hebeish credited officers and detectives for quickly securing evidence, identifying the suspect, and making an arrest less than 24 hours after the shooting. The victim has been preliminarily identified as a 15-year-old boy, but his name has not been released pending official identification and notification of family members by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The motive remains under investigation. Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
Male Killed in Broad Daylight Shooting; Helicopter Male Killed in Broad Daylight Shooting; Helicopters, Drones, Police and SWAT Fail to Find Suspect Long Beach homicide detectives continue investigating a fatal mid-day shooting that happened Thursday, May 28, near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded around 12:32 p.m. to reports of a hit shooting in the area. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived on scene. Homicide detectives later responded and took over the investigation. As of Friday, investigators have not released any new information about the suspect, possible motive, or circumstances leading up to the shooting. The identity of the victim is also being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The deadly shooting triggered a massive police response that lasted more than seven hours in North Long Beach. Multiple SWAT units, armored vehicles, drones, and helicopters flooded the area while officers shut down portions of Long Beach Boulevard searching for the suspect. Despite the extensive operation and large amount of police resources used throughout the afternoon and evening, authorities were unable to locate or arrest the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
