Long Beach Police Officer-Involved Shooting in Central Long Beach

Long Beach Police responded to an officer-involved shooting near MLK park around 3:00pm today.

LBPD officers were dispatched to 1950 Lemon Avenue, Martin Luther King Park regarding a shooting.

When LBPD arrived, officers contacted a male adult subject in the area of 1200 Leigh Court. That subject was on a bicycle and believed to be involved in the shooting from the park.

Preliminary investigation revealed the subject fled from the officers, the officers chased the subject on foot giving him commands but the subject refused to comply.  It is believed that the subject then shot at the officer and an officer involved shooting occurred.

The subject sustained gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department transported the suspect to a local hospital.

A firearm was located in the area of the Officer Involved Shooting. No victims from the initial shooting incident have been located at this time, Homicide Detective are on scene.
