By the Numbers (Long Beach only):   

  • 4,472 total positive results
  • 136 fatalities 
  • 75 people hospitalized 
  • Approximately 3,399 recovered (Please note that, for low-risk patients recovering at home, recovery data is self-reported)

Details Regarding Fatalities:

  • 103 are associated with long-term care facilities
  • Ages:
    • 2 were in their 40s
    • 8 were in their 50s
    • 27 were in their 60s
    • 31 were in their 70s
    • 45 were in their 80s
    • 23 were over 90 
  • 60 female, 76 male 
  • All individuals had underlying health conditions
  • At this time, to avoid risk to patient privacy, no further details will be provided

Long-Term Care Facility Case Information: 

  • 944 positive cases have been confirmed at a total of 31 long-term care facilities (LTCF) in the city since the start of the pandemic (see attachment).
    • Thirty-one is a cumulative number; the Health Department is currently monitoring long-term care facilities with active cases. These cases include both facility residents and staff members (who may not be residents). 
    • Long Beach has a total of 71 LTCFs, including assisted living and skilled nursing, that are currently open and operating in the city. 
  • In line with the California Department of Public Health’s standard for listing skilled nursing facilities with positive cases, the City is listing facilities currently experiencing outbreaks (more than two cases of COVID-19) including counts for health care workers and residents.

  • Information regarding positive cases, hospitalizations and demographic breakdown is available online at longbeach.gov/COVID19 and on the City’s digital dashboard, providing the most up-to-date information available (see attachment).


Today’s Highlights:

  • There will not be a livestream press conference today. Moving forward, press conferences will take place on an as-needed basis. Media may ask questions or request phone/video interviews by emailing jic@longbeach.gov or calling 562.570.NEWS.
  • Later today, the City will release fireworks enforcement results from over the Fourth of July weekend, including the number of submitted complaints of firework violations, citation and arrest numbers and fireworks-related calls for service. 
  • A Police Department employee stationed at Jail Division has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee was last at work on June 25. The employee is currently recovering at home in self-isolation. The employee is not a Long Beach resident and, thus, is not included in the total case count for the city.
  • All City-run COVID-19 testing sites in Long Beach will resume normal hours today after having modified hours and closures during the holiday weekend. The City has added extra testing lots throughout the week in order to meet the demand for testing following the holiday weekend.
  • Following the passage of the State of California’s budget on June 30, 2020, the City of Long Beach will receive $40,280,494 in CARES Act funding to support the City’s COVID-19 pandemic response efforts.
