“Our airport is a powerful economic asset for our city,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “These new flights provide valuable connectivity for both our regional residents and travelers wanting to visit Southern California.”

On March 10, Hawaiian Airlines begins daily nonstop service to Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG), complementing its daily service to Honolulu, which started in 2018. On March 11, Southwest Airlines launches daily, nonstop flights from LGB to Chicago (MDW), Dallas (DAL), Honolulu (HNL), Houston (HOU), Maui (OGG), Reno (RNO) and St. Louis (STL). Southwest already serves Austin (AUS), Denver (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS), Oakland (OAK), Phoenix (PHX), Sacramento (SMF) and San Jose (SJC), bringing the airline’s new total to 14 cities available nonstop via LGB.

“We are thrilled to offer all these new choices for our travelers,” said Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. “With the new flights and our easygoing experience, we are a traveler’s top choice for starting a Hawaiian vacation from Southern California.”

Of five airports in the Greater Los Angeles area, LGB is the only one to offer nonstop service to Hawaii via Southwest Airlines, and is second only to Los Angeles International Airport in the number of nonstop flights to the islands offered on Hawaiian Airlines.

The award-winning airport is also home to American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. American will launch new nonstop service to Dallas Fort Worth in April, bringing the number of cities with nonstop service from LGB to 16. A route map is available on the LGB airport website

LGB is a slot-controlled airport with one of the strongest noise control ordinances in the nation. With the additional flights starting this week, LGB will increase the number of daily flights to 35 out of a total of 53 available flight slots. The airlines are closely monitoring demand for air travel and are expected to increase offerings as COVID-19 vaccination rates increase and case rates continue to decline.

LGB has instituted a number of measures to enhance passenger safety in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including physical distancing, new disinfecting protocols and a face covering requirement. Read more about these measures, and check out a video of what it’s like to fly through LGB with the current precautions.

Situated near the border of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, LGB is located in close proximity to numerous major attractions in Southern California.
