Belmont Heights Community Association hosts food drive for the holidays

Belmont Heights Community Association is an organization that collects and donates canned and dried foods, school supplies, and new personal hygiene items at the end of each month.

At the end of every month, Rev. Lisa Fitzpatrick of the Belmont Heights United Methodist Church and board member Will Cullen of the Belmont Heights Community Association get together to collect donations for a different local organization. Long Beach Community College Food Pantry will be the recipient of the donation this month.

“College students in Long Beach are not getting enough to eat. To put it bluntly, these students are going hungry. A lot of them are homeless. They can’t afford housing. Some live in their cars and go to school,” said Cullen.

Will Cullen and Rev. Lisa Fitzpatrick are always eager to give back to the community.

“It’s a coping mechanism. I saw people who were unable to work and were hungry. People are not being able to feed their families. This gets us through the pain that we see other people going through,” said Cullen.

The drive-thru will take place Saturday, Nov. 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m at 317 Termino Ave., Belmont Heights United Methodist Church.

If you would like to contribute to the mission on the day of the food drive, you can stop by to volunteer or donate non-perishable foods, adult diapers, school supplies, and hygiene products.
