Suspect Arrested in Sexual Assault, Police Seek Additional Victims

On Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, detectives with the Long Beach Police Department’s Sex Crimes Detail arrested Demetrio Estrada, a 29-year-old resident of Compton, for one count of kidnapping to commit rape and one count of assault with intent to commit a felony sex crime.

In August 2021, Sex Crimes detectives began investigating a reported sexual assault incident involving a male adult suspect driving a 2006 Silver Honda Civic and posing as a driver of a ridesharing app. The suspect picked up a female adult victim near a bus stop in the area of 1st street and The Promenade, before driving the victim to a separate location and sexually assaulting her.

Through their investigation, detectives gathered sufficient information to identify Estrada as the suspect and presented the case to District Attorney’s Office, who issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest. Estrada was arrested and subsequently booked at the Long Beach City Jail, where his bail was set at $1,100,000.

Detectives believe Estrada routinely frequents entertainment districts in Long Beach and are encouraging any additional victims to come forward.
