LBLN Weekend Round-up

Long Beach is a diverse city and there’s always something to do. Long Beach Local News has compiled a list of events you don’t want to miss this weekend.

FRIDAY

On the first Friday of event month, Bixby Knolls hosts a First Fridays Long Beach event. 

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is a night full of music, art, food, drinks, and shopping from local businesses. Tonight’s First Friday will be at the Expo Arts Center located at 4321 Atlantic Ave. 

SATURDAY, July 2

For those of you who want to celebrate the 4th of July in a pet-friendly way, Independence Day Dog Parade is for you. Dogs are welcome to dress up in the patriotic finest. The parade will take place at Lincoln Park, located at 101 Pacific Ave., and will run from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Surfrider Foundation Clean-up is a monthly event held at the Belmont Pier. It starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. The purpose of the clean-up is not only to reduce waste on the beach but to teach attendees about marine litter issues. A participation waiver is required to participate.

Trademark Brewing’s Beer Yoga is held every Saturday at 11 a.m.  $15 tickets include admission, professional instruction by a certified yoga instructor, and one recovery beer.  Bring your own mat or rent one for $10 cash. Attendees should arrive 10 minutes early.  Trademark Brewing is at 233 E. Anaheim St. 

North Long Beach Crop Shop is a monthly produce swap where those with a green thumb bring the extra fruits and vegetables they have grown to share with neighbors. Fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, seeds, worms, flowers, and native plants are all welcome. There will be no cash exchanges, dairy products, or prepared foods. Produce made with pesticides or GMOs are not allowed. The swap runs from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m and will be at the Firehouse Community Farm at 6509 Gundry Avenue. 

SUNDAY, July 3

Rosie’s Dog Beach Clean-up will start bright and early at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring trash bags, gloves, masks, and water. The clean-up is hosted by the Doffather Institute but this is not a training event. Rosie’s Dog Beach is at 5000 E. Ocean Blvd.

Alex’s Bar is putting on Punk Rock Karaoke starting at 2 p.m. There will be a sign-up sheet at the venue where you pick your favorite punk song and then when your song is called, you join the band on stage to live out your rock star fantasies. Tickets are $19.32.  Alex’s Bar is located at 2913 E. Anaheim Street.

Cal Heights Patio Tunes in the Summer is being put on by Roxanne’s and local California Heights musicians. It’s only $10 for an afternoon of live music on Roxanne’s patio. There will also be food and spirits from Willie’s Tin Shop. Roxanne’s is at 1115 E. Wardlow Road.
