Fatal Collision Involving Metro Train, Motorcycle, and Vehicle

Long Beach, California – March 20, 2024

Collision Investigation detectives with LBPD are currently investigating a tragic traffic incident that occurred on March 20, 2024, claiming the life of an adult male.

The incident unfolded around 5:51 p.m. when LBPD were called to the intersection of 8th Street and Long Beach Boulevard in response to reports of a traffic collision involving a Metro Train, a motorcycle, and another vehicle. Upon arrival, the Long Beach Fire Department personnel assessed the situation and sadly confirmed the motorcyclist’s demise at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a 2015 Honda Civic, operated by a 20-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard, just north of 8th Street, followed closely by a 2014 Triumph motorcycle. As the vehicles approached the intersection, the motorcycle attempted to overtake the Honda Civic on the driver’s side, resulting in a collision with the car’s rear bumper. The impact propelled the motorcyclist into the path of an oncoming Metro train, traveling southbound.

Despite the severity of the collision, the driver of the Honda Civic remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are currently exploring speed and impaired driving as potential contributing factors to the collision, particularly focusing on the actions of the motorcyclist.

The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner has been called to the scene to handle the deceased’s remains, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, the community mourns the loss of life and awaits further details regarding the sequence of events leading to the collision.
