LBPD Arrests Murder Suspect

On June 2, 2021, at approximately 11:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence near 10th Street and Cherry Avenue to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a shooting victim, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel were on scene treating the victim for a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper torso. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene due to the victim’s critical injury and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the shooting. A firearm was collected from the scene, and witnesses were interviewed by responding officers.

The victim, who succumbed to her injuries on June 5, 2021, has been identified as Crystal Gonzalez, an 18-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Detectives identified and arrested male adult suspect Luis Oros, a 22-year-old resident of Long Beach who was booked on one count of attempted murder on June 3, 2021. Oros remains in custody at the Long Beach City jail on $1,000,000 bail as the case is being upgraded to a murder investigation.

Through their investigation, Detectives have learned Oros and Gonzales were living together at the time of the incident and discovered evidence Oros discharged a firearm at Gonzalez during an argument, which resulted in the fatal injury. Detectives presented these facts to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on the morning of June 7, 2021, for filing consideration.
