LBPD Seek Public’s Help in Traffic Fatality Investigation

Update 11/30/21: 

Detectives from the Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of an early to mid-2000s Toyota Camry that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision on Nov. 12, 2021.

The collision occurred at the intersection of East Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue and resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The pedestrian has been identified as David Bermudez, a 72-year-old resident of Long Beach.

At this time, detectives believe the suspect vehicle is a early to mid-2000’s model, dark-color Toyota Camry with tinted windows and a missing hub cap on the front driver’s side tire.

Original News Release Posted 11/22/21:
On Nov. 12, 2021, at approximately 6:22 p.m., officers responded to the area of Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision which later resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian in the roadway suffering from injuries to his upper body. Officers rendered life-saving aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. 

Through their preliminary investigation, officers learned the pedestrian was walking southbound across Artesia Boulevard west of Atlantic Avenue, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound, which fled the scene prior to officers arrival. A witness described the suspect vehicle as a dark Toyota Camry. 

On Nov. 22, 2021, the Long Beach Police Department was notified the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 19, 2021. He has been identified as David Bermudez, a 72-year-old resident of Long Beach. 

At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are believed to be factors in the collision.
