Two Shot, One Killed in Central Long Beach

Shots were heard near the intersection of 20th Street and Wesley Drive on the night of June 13, 2021. Two male adults were wounded, one fatally.

Officers found one of the two victims lying in the street in the 1300 block of Wesley Drive with gunshot wounds to the upper torso. After officers attempted to provide medical aid, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim was found nearby having gunshot wounds in their upper torso as well and was immediately transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They are now reported to be in stable condition.

Officers found in their preliminary investigation that two unknown suspects approached the victims on foot and proceeded to have a verbal altercation. As the situation escalated, one of the suspects revealed a handgun and shot both victims there and then. The two suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Reportedly, the two victims were strangers to one another and were involved in separate activities at the time of the confrontation. Though the incident is still under investigation, detectives are proceeding under the suspitions of this being a gang-related attack.

The victim who died on scene is only being identified as a 37-year-old resident of Long Beach pending the notification of their family.
