California Families in Focus is inviting the Long Beach Community and surrounding cities to its first of its kind “I Matter 2” Anti Bullying and Suicide Awareness Youth Fashion Show. The event will take place this Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 4:00 pm-9:00 p.m. at the Latin America Art museum in Long Beach.
Angel Macias, CEO and founder of Families in Focus has been in Long Beach for over 25 years working to shed light on issues that affect the Youth. Her organization’s goal is to create a movement where they can go to schools and communities, tell their stories and provide resources for the youth struggling with bullying and suicide. Macias says: “ We need help and support and our youth are running this show. The Youth are our future without them we don’t have one.”
The organization put teams together to design an outfit that sends an anti bullying and suicide awareness message. There are 35 youth participants from local Long Beach schools. Each team received a donated sowing machine and $200 dollars to purchase materials from second hand stores. The winning team has the opportunity of flying to the New York Fashion Week, and the best design over all will be featured in a Fashion show in Morocco.
The aim of this event is to welcome all and expand and provide resources for the Youth. If you are interested in being a part of this empowering event, tickets are still available on Eventbrite for $25 dollars per adults and free for Youth. Food and Entertainment will be provided as part of the pricing. To learn more about the organization you can also visit their website www.mycff.org .
