City of Long Beach 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Day City of Long Beach 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Virtual Celebration. 

The City of Long Beach invites the community to participate in a virtual MLK Day of Celebration and Service on Monday, Jan. 18. The virtual event will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., feature engaging forums and activities and showcase the arts and culture of the community. You can watch the virtual event on Facebook and YouTube from 10am - 12pm. 

The City will adhere to an amended schedule for the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) holiday on Monday, Jan. 18. The City of Long Beach is reminding all residents and visitors to comply with the Safer at Home Order during the holiday weekend to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 as cases continue to surge.

Gatherings among people from separate households are not permitted, per the updated Health Order issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. People should maintain at least a six-foot distance from other individuals not in the same household, including when at beaches and parks; wear a face covering whenever they are in public; wash hands frequently and sanitize high-touch surfaces.

One Person Found Dead After House Fire in Bixby Kn One Person Found Dead After House Fire in Bixby Knolls. Long Beach Fire responded to the 1000 block of Marcellus Street in Bixby Knolls around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

When the firefighters arrived they reported heavy fire coming out of a one-story house. It took firefighters about 8 minutes to put out the house fire, according to Captain Jack Crabtree PIO with LBFD. One person was found dead inside the home and another managed to escape the fire. Captain Crabtree says the fire does not seem suspicious at this time, the investigation into the cause is ongoing. #longbeach #lbfd

Police Ask Public’s Help Identifying Suspect in Police Ask Public’s Help Identifying Suspect in Sexual Battery Incidents. The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who detectives believe may be responsible for at least eight sexual battery incidents in the West Division area. In September of 2020, the Long Beach Police Department was made aware of an incident where a male adult suspect approached a female victim from behind and sexually battered her. Since then, Sex Crimes detectives have been able to connect seven other incidents with similar circumstances. Generally, the suspect has attacked the victims between 6:00-8:30 p.m., while the victims were walking alone or with other females. All victims are female Hispanic

Below is a summary of the incidents:

On Sep. 18, 2020, officers were dispatched to the area of Locust Avenue and Willard Street, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind and thrusted against her. The victim is a 43-year-old female.
On Nov. 5, 2020, officers were dispatched to the area of 25th Street and Earl Avenue, the suspect grabbed victim from behind, covered her mouth and thrusted against her. The victim is a 37- year-old female.
On Nov. 8, 2020, officers were dispatched to the area 20th Street and Pasadena Avenue, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind and thrusted against her. The victim is a 26-year-old female.
On Nov. 18, 2020, officers were dispatched to the area of 20th Street and Pasadena Avenue, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind and thrusted against her. The suspect pushed her down after the victim attempted to defend herself. The victim is a 48-year-old female.
On Nov. 29, 2020, officers were dispatched to the area of Hill Street and Locust Avenue, the suspect grabbed victim’s arms from behind and thrusted against her. The victim is a 27-year-old female.
On Nov. 29, 2020, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Burnett Street, the suspect grabbed the victim’s face from behind and thrusted against her. The victim is a 31-year-old female.
On Nov. 29, 2020, the victim was walking in the area of Pine Avenue and Burnett Street when the suspect grabbed her buttocks from behind and took her wallet. More on our website

Molina Healthcare funds nearly $320,000 worth of P Molina Healthcare funds nearly $320,000 worth of PPE in California. @molinahealth of California (“Molina”) has funded nearly $320,000 worth of personal protective equipment (“PPE”) for health care professionals and local community-based organizations. Molina has identified provider partners and nonprofits most in need and has supplied more than 35,000 three-ply masks, N95 masks, and antibody test kits. The contribution is supporting small clinics, skilled nursing facilities, federally qualified health centers, county health departments, and larger health systems throughout California. Since the pandemic began, Molina has been actively identifying provider partners and community organizations that require monetary support to help address COVID-19 shortages and emergency needs. This donation for the purchase of PPE follows Molina’s over $400,000 in donations to dozens of California-based organizations that are supporting individuals and families with needed food, supplies, and other resources.
Homeless man shot and killed in Long Beach. On Sun Homeless man shot and killed in Long Beach. On Sunday arounf 8:10 p.m., Long Beach police officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of East 68th Street regarding a reported shooting victim adjacent to the freeway, which resulted in the death of a male adult. Responding officers located the victim in a homeless encampment adjacent to the westbound traffic lanes of the 91 freeway. The victim was non-responsive, and officers immediately began performing life saving measures. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim resided at the encampment and was shot multiple times in the upper torso. Witnesses at the scene described two or more male suspects fleeing the scene on-foot toward Cherry Avenue. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, although it is being investigated as gang-related. The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Samuel Villalba of Long Beach.
